Educator of children’s home : "Many parents are unable to raise their children"
Educator Wolfgang Beckmann has been working with delinquent children for almost 40 years. In this interview, he explains why education is crucial in preventing children and young people from committing crimes.
Mr Beckmann, you are the deputy director of the Protestant Child, Youth and Family Welfare Service in Würzburg, a home that also has secure accommodation facilities. According to the Police Crime Statistics (PKS), the number of children and young people suspected of committing crimes increased in 2022 in comparison to the pre-Corona year of 2019. The increase is particularly high among children, with a rise of around 16 per cent. How do you explain this?
