Many singers today become famous when they are very young. Taylor Swift was sixteen when her first song was released, Justin Bieber was just fifteen. But there are also some international artists who started their careers later in life. James Blunt is one of them.
James Blunt comes from England. His father was a colonel in the British Army. The army paid for James' education, so when he finished school, he had to go into the army. James was a soldier for many years. During the war in former Yugoslavia, he worked in Kosovo as a captain. He took his guitar with him, and whenever he had the chance, he played songs with his colleagues or with the locals.
James left the army when he was twenty-eight. He wanted to have a career in music. Two years later, he produced his first album. One of the songs on this album, “You're Beautiful“, became a big international hit, reaching Number One in ten countries and making James Blunt instantly famous.
Six years later, James has just released his third album. The first single on the album is called “Stay the Night“. Like many songs, it is a love song. It tells of „a perfect day“ in California when it's „72 degrees“ (Fahrenheit!) and there's „zero chance of rain“. James is with his friends watching „the sunset from our car / And by the time that it was dark, you and me had something.“ That something could be love...
In a typical Blunt chorus, James goes on to sing the positive message of the song: „If this is what we've got, then what we've got is gold / We're shining bright, and I want you, I want you to know ... The morning is on its way, our friends all say goodbye / There's nowhere else to go, I hope that you'll stay the night.“ For a man who has experienced so much, all James Blunt now seems to want is someone he can be close to. James just wants a friend.
